Era of Third Wave Web Hosting

Era of Third Wave Web Hosting
The former Wave - ISP Wave

In the mid of 1990’s, first wave of Web hosting started. Actually there weren’t many web hosting companies at that time. It was a part of ISP (Internet Service Provider) operation. In United States itself the number of ISPs grew from a few dozens to a few thousands within two years. Predication was made by many analysts that the consolidation of ISP industry was inescapable. But the future of the web hosting was neglected by these analysts. Most small to medium-sized organizations were web hosting clients for ISPs; these organizations couldn’t recommend to have dedicated Internet connection

The Secondary Wave - One Plan Hosting Wave

A small number of leading ISP, such as AOL had captured residential users from small ISP companies, and telecommunication companies had stolen or acquired commercial clients from small or regional ISP companies, as large telecommunication companies were entering into the ISP industry and also the widespread of broadband connection into both commercial and residential buildings. ISPs couldn’t battle with either AOL, Comcast or Qwest for Internet connection service because of the economy of scale. The majority of ISP companies were disappearing as fast as they were up-and-coming.

The development of the Web has pushed the second wave of web hosting on the other hand. The web hosting companies put forward hosting service at a part of cost of what ISPs usually charged. The idea of one hosting plan has helped in the growth of the client base from a few hundreds to hundreds of thousands at few leading hosting companies in a very short span of time. In comparison to the Web hosting service from ISP, which is time and again modified for each client in one way or the other? Nowadays web hosting companies are not offering Internet connection service at all. It’s amazing that in the early time ISP companies never tried to transform themselves into web hosting companies to endure the unavoidable consolidation of ISP industry.

The Third Wave - Hosting Plan for Consumer

Trainee webmasters are often perplexed by the variety of web hosting plans –like Affordable Web Hosting, ASP Web Hosting, Shared Hosting, Budget Hosting, Cheap Web hosting, eCommerce Hosting, FrontPage Web Hosting, Dedicated Servers, Hosting With Templates, PHP Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Managed Web Hosting, Virtual Private Servers, Co-location Hosting, Windows Hosting and Unix / Linux Hosting. Whereas experienced webmasters easily setup a new website in minutes with any of their favorite hosting companies.

With more and more people joining the crow to create their own websites the size of the Web will continue to grow unexpectedly. As web hosting companies do not expect average people to be aware of programming languages, operating systems or variations of web servers, they develop the service and sell the hosting plan that makes sense to very few. Latest web hosting plan will be tagged in terms of what can be done for hosting customers, instead of technical exhortation.

As the global economy and IT industry revitalizes the Web hosting industry has been enjoying healthy growth. In Web hosting it’s ahead of time to observe the tide of the third wave right at this instant. The coming of the third wave may not be an exemption either, if the first and the second wave of Web hosing were pushed by the beginning of a new trade and industry cycle.
